How to Use Flixotide Spray

Question:

Could you please explain exactly how to use Flixotide spray? I have read that it should not be swallowed and that a certain “spacer” should be used, but I do not know what that is.

Thank you for your help. Have a good day.

Answer:

Fluticasone dipropionate — Flixotide — when used for eosinophilic esophagitis, does not require a spacer.

The puffs should be sprayed directly into the mouth from the inhaler device and then swallowed. After taking the medication, no liquids or solid food should be taken by mouth for at least 30 minutes.

In this way, the active ingredient can reach the esophagus and be effective.
