Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic inflammatory disease, immune- or allergen-mediated, characterized by symptoms of esophageal dysfunction. It is still considered a rare condition today, but its incidence and prevalence are steadily increasing. Eosinophilic esophagitis was first recognized as a distinct disease entity in the early 1990s, and since then its incidence has risen from about 1 case per 100,000 patients to around 10 cases per 100,000.
The ESEO ITALIA association is made up of families with a member affected by eosinophilic esophagitis, with the aim of helping children and adults living with this condition and their families to prevent or overcome the medical, social, and broader challenges associated with it. The association also works to raise public awareness and support research, including through fundraising activities.
